Water, Peace and Security

The United Nations General Assembly hosted a session this week in New York entitled “Water, Peace and Security.” Among others, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Catherine Ashton, the foreign policy lead for the European Union, spoke.  The Skoll Global Threats Fund, which tackles water security as one of our areas of work, supports the U.S. Water Partnership, a private-public partnership launched by Secretary Clinton earlier this year that helped organize this UN event.  There’s a good summary statement of the key takeaways from the discussion by Maria Otero of the U.S. State Department that starts at 57 minutes in. This is followed by Secretary Clinton’s remarks.  You can watch the roundtable below.

Jeff Skoll Profiled in Forbes Magazine

Our founder, Jeff Skoll, is profiled in the current issue of Forbes Magazine.  It’s a wide-ranging article that talks about the creation of the Skoll Foundation, with its focus on social entrepreneurship, and the later formation of Participant Media (read the sidebar piece here) and the Skoll Global Threats Fund.  It provides great insight into Jeff’s view of the world and why he does the work he does.  A good read.  Check it out here.
