Dr. Mark Smolinski, who heads up our pandemics work here at the Skoll Global Threats Fund, recently gave the convocation address at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health at the University of Arizona. Mark was a member of the first graduating class of the school some 20 years back. In his address, Mark lays out his personal journey in epidemiology, but also highlights how technology has given us tremendous new capacity to monitor for, identify and react to infectious disease outbreaks. It’s a good, and entertaining, talk. Check out the transcript here or watch the video from the University webcast archive on this page (Go to Class of 2012 College of Public Health Convocation. Mark starts speaking 16 minutes in).
